Adorno Fathers Begin Historic Mission in the United Kingdom
A new era has begun for the Adorno Fathers, as the religious order takes a historic step in establishing its first community in the United Kingdom. Entrusted with the pastoral care of St. Laurence Church, Cambridge, the Clerics Regular Minor (CRM) have arrived with a mission to serve, bringing their Eucharistic spirituality to one of England’s most dynamic and diverse faith communities.
The Diocese of East Anglia, under the leadership of Bishop Peter Collins, welcomed the Adorno Fathers with open arms, marking a significant expansion of the Order’s presence in Europe. The appointment of Fr. Robin Joseph, CRM, as Parish Priest and Superior signals the beginning of a new pastoral chapter for St. Laurence Church. Arriving in September 2024, Fr. Robin has spent months integrating into the life of the parish, learning the pastoral rhythms of the diocese, and forging relationships with the local community. During this period, he was warmly supported by Fr. Jude, a fellow Filipino priest, whose guidance and encouragement helped ease the transition into his new role.
The journey to this moment was shaped by the dedicated efforts of Fr. Teodoro O. Kalaw, CRM, Superior General of the Adorno Fathers, who had been in close communication with the diocese to establish a solid foundation for the mission. His recent visit to St. Laurence Church was a time of encounter and mutual appreciation, as he engaged with parishioners over two weekends, sharing in their faith and listening to their aspirations for the parish’s future. Addressing the community in a heartfelt “Letter to St. Laurence Parishioners”, he provided insights into the charism of the Adorno Fathers, responding to questions and strengthening the connection between the Order and its new faith family.
The presence of the Adorno Fathers in Cambridge has continued to grow with the arrival of Fr. Alex Francis, CRM, who joins Fr. Robin in carrying out the many pastoral responsibilities of the parish. His presence marks a new step in building a committed religious community that will guide and serve the faithful with dedication. In a gesture symbolizing this mission, Fr. Teodoro Kalaw presented the parish with a golden chalice, underscoring the Order’s Eucharistic identity and its commitment to deepening the spiritual life of the congregation.
The significance of this new mission extends beyond the parish itself. Cambridge, a city renowned for its intellectual heritage and rich cultural diversity, provides a unique setting for the Adorno Fathers to engage with people from all over the world. St. Laurence Church stands at the heart of this international faith community, drawing together parishioners from varied backgrounds in a vibrant expression of Catholic unity. With its welcoming spirit and deep-rooted traditions, the parish has become a home for those seeking both spiritual nourishment and a sense of belonging.
The Adorno Fathers’ presence in the United Kingdom is more than an expansion of their geographical reach—it is a profound response to their calling of service, humility, and Eucharistic devotion. The mission, now entrusted to their care, is an opportunity to walk alongside the people of St. Laurence, sharing in their joys, challenges, and aspirations. As the Order looks to the future, it does so with deep faith, confident that the intercession of St. Francis Caracciolo, Venerable Augustine Adorno, and Fr. Fabrizio Caracciolo will guide their path.
With the foundation now laid, the journey ahead is one of building, nurturing, and growing together in faith. The Adorno Fathers step into this mission with gratitude and hope, ready to serve and be served, as they embrace their new home in Cambridge.
