Embracing the Vocation in Lipa City.
Seven novices from the Democratic Republic of Congo made their temporary profession at the International Novitiate in Lipa City, marking a significant milestone in their religious journey. The ceremony, celebrated on the feast of St. Lawrence, was a powerful testimony to their faith and dedication despite difficult circumstances. The novices, who left their families and turmoil in their home country, embraced their vocation with deep dedication. Father General Theodore Kalaw, CRM, who presided over the Mass, delivered a moving homily that deeply touched the novices and the community present.
In his speech, Father General emphasized the significance of the novices' vows, drawing inspiration from the life of St. Lawrence. “Today, as you take on this holy habit, understand that it is not just an outward sign,” he said. “It is a profound symbol that must manifest itself in your daily life. This habit represents not only a promise, but a radical commitment to live your baptismal vows with renewed fervor.”
Father General offered the novices four guiding principles for their journey:
1. Be Open: “Openness means living with a spirituality that constantly seeks to adore Christ in our actions and words,” he explained. “This openness is the basis of our relationship with Christ, enabling us to grow in faith and serve him wholeheartedly.”
2. Be Patient: “Patience is essential in the spiritual journey,” he said. “Growth takes time and we must not be overly critical of our progress. True patience helps us grow into the fullness of what God intends for us, without rushing the process.”
3. Be Alive: “Your life must be a living testimony of your encounter with Christ,” Father General noted. “Being alive in Christ means being willing to risk discomfort, criticism and challenges for His glory. What we receive in return is much greater: a new life with the risen Lord.”
4. Grow: “Do not remain as children who always receive,” he urged. “Grow as servants, like Christ, who gave Himself completely and freely. Your growth will be marked by your ability to give of yourselves, just as Christ did.”
The Mass was enriched by a moving performance of Latin hymns, enriched with an African touch, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the novices. Father General concluded the ceremony by reminding the novices that they are gifts to the Church and society. “You are beginning a new chapter in your journey with Christ,” he said. “May you walk this path with the same passion and dedication as our founders, always faithful to the call of the Lord.”
This ceremony not only marked a new chapter for the seven novices, but also underscored the enduring power and universality of the Church's mission. As they continue on their journey, they carry with them the support and prayers of their brethren and the wider church community.
